Kiosk Universal

There are around 11 bars in La Boqueria, and we’re not brave enough to go out on a limb to say this is the best.

Still, the fresh seafood on offer seems to attract as many locals as tourists, and it is pretty darned good. (See the Boqueria website below to locate it in the market).

Eldiset

Interior of El Diset wine bar in El Born

In an area brimming with wine bars, Eldiset is always busy, which should tell you something. The focus is on Catalan wines, and the staff will help you find something to suit your tastes – it helps that there are four choices each of whites and reds by the glass as well as a couple of cavas. The food arguably plays second-fiddle to the wines, though the cheese platter is pretty good.

Federal Café

On-trend Federal Café attracts the hipster set

An Australian-themed hipster café in Parliament street, that’s not too hampered by its coolness.

Okay – you may have to fight your way past the computer-wielding coffee drinkers who treat the joint like a co-working space, but it is worth it. The brunches are excellent, and lunch is not shabby either. Plus coffee and cakes. What’s not to like?

Kangaroo burger at Federal Café

The burgers are excellent, and while a kangaroo burger sounds completely out of place here, it is one of the best burgers in Barcelona.

Apparently there are queues on the weekends. (There’s another outlet in the Gothic quarter.)
